Overview:
Bread. Humble and ancient, has been taken for granted since the dawn of civilisation. We build traditions around it, break it at every meal, and more recently have been throwing 875 tonnes of it away without second thought. It’s something we do in Australia every single day.

But what if we’ve been discarding our most underrated building material in history? One that could put a dent in the very housing crisis making headlines in the news most mornings?

Idea:Crust of Living is an organisation dedicated to collecting discarded bread wastage and binding it with mycelium. The organisation sells it to construction companies at a lower cose than standard materials, replacing insulation and panelling in a regular build. Housing becomes cheaper built from the recess sandwich crusts we’ve been throwing away.
